2010 Recruiting Update - 9/18

Site note: With Michigan having a bye week, the Run Chart for Notre Dame will be pushed back a bit. Maybe the weekend, most likely next Monday or Tuesday. I'm not especially looking forward to watching the game again. Sue me.

New (9/18): William Gholston (Recruiting Planet); Dior Mathis (Freep); DE Darryl Baldwin; QB Christian Green; WR Chris Dunkley.

Editorial (9/18): The news on Gholston is predictably bleak. It gushes of MSU (expectedly), and does not mention Michigan (obviously). I could go on a rant about Michigan's old staff sabotaging any shot UM had at Will Gholston with the way they stiff-armed Vernon Gholston in favor of Eugene Germany, but that would be petty, wouldn't it?

Lost in the hype of 2009 DE Anthony LaLota committing and 2009 DE Craig Roh possibly committing tonight (announcement on ESPNU at 6:30 eastern) was the little nugget that (2010 CB) "Dior Mathis to Miami" turned out to be a myth - for the time being. Miami is still the team to beat for the Cass Tech corner, but Michigan is doing their best to do just that. Boubacar Cissoko is on the roster, Teric Jones is a 2009 commit, William Campbell used to be and may be again, and Thomas Gordon is expected to pick between UM and MSU in the next week or so (with the outlook being blue). That's three current and one former Cass Tech teammate(s) possibly in Mathis's ear about Michigan.

Snippet from the Freep article straight from Mathis:
"My interest in Michigan is very high,” Mathis said. “This is my home state and I would love to stay at home. My family and all my friends are here and all my boys at Cass Tech are going to Michigan."

Emphasis mine. This could just be a generalization, or it could be tipping the hands of both Gordon and Campbell.

New to the board this week are QB Green, DE Baldwin and WR Dunkley. Green is yet another 2010 running QB that's on Michigan's radar (and vice versa). To quell the paraoid schitzophrenics of the internet worried about MSU turning the state green, I hope UM's priorities at the QB position rest with Gardner and Bolden before the others they're looking at.

Baldwin is another highly touted defensive end out of the state of Ohio for 2010. Not quite on Jamel Turner's level apparently, but still good enough to earn an Ohio State offer. Baldwin grew up worshipping Satan cheering for the Buckeyes, so he may be a tough pull. Tressel's track record in Ohio speaks for itself - if he wants you badly enough, you will probably commit to him.

Dunkley is not QUITE pint-sized, but is still small: 5'10, 164. Michigan's doing the whole "invade Florida" thing, but early on this one looks bleak, as he has a top three of Florida, Florida State and Georgia. Dunkley will be another early test for UM's staff to see how they stack up in the state of Florida when directly competing with the instate powers.

Rest of the board remains the same for the time being, and is now updated below.
